Stephen A. Terrile is a founding partner in Hamilton & Terrile, LLP. Previously, he was the managing partner of the Austin office of Skjerven, Morrill, MacPherson, LLP. His practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property law, including patent protection of electrical/electronic devices, circuits, systems, and computer software.
Prior to joining Skjerven, Mr. Terrile worked at IBM's Boca Raton Intellectual Property Law Department where his responsibilities included intellectual property related support of the Advanced Systems Design Group, which designed high end personal computers and servers, as well as portions of the Boca Programming Center, which designed operating systems and application programs for personal computers. He was also responsible for OEM and patent licensing. Ultimately, Mr. Terrile was promoted to Senior Attorney, Intellectual Property Law and his responsibilities were broadened to include intellectual property related support of the graphics group, which designed and developed, e.g., the XGA graphics controller, as well as the IBM portion of the Noyce development center, which designed and developed personal computer chip sets such as DMA controllers, bus interface controllers and memory controllers.
Prior to law school, Mr. Terrile worked as an engineer for ZTEL Corporation (local area networks and telephone switches) and then at Honeywell of the Electro Optics division (hardware and software design of automatic test equipment).
Mr. Terrile is admitted to various Federal District and Appellate Courts, and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Terrile is a member of the State Bars of Texas, Massachusetts and Florida, the American Intellectual Property Association and the Austin Intellectual Property Association. Mr. Terrile obtained his J.D., cum laude from Suffolk University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, cum laude from Merrimack College.
