Kent B. Chambers is a partner in Hamilton & Terrile, LLP. Previously, he was the associate general counsel of Trilogy Software, Inc. Before joining Trilogy, Mr. Chambers was a resident partner in the Austin, Texas office of Skjerven Morrill MacPherson.
Mr. Chambers has experience in all aspects of intellectual property law, with particular emphasis and depth in patent prosecution, intellectual property counseling and strategy development, copyright and trademark protection, software development and licensing transactions, development and employment agreements, proprietary information protection, corporate privacy and trade secrecy and privacy policies.
At Trilogy, Mr. Chambers was responsible for developing intellectual property portfolio strategies, developing intellectual property related policies (such as confidentiality, ownership, publication, and marking policies), and evaluating and protecting (i) inventions, (ii) other innovations, (iii) software and hardware implementations, (iv) trademarks, and (v) trade names. Mr. Chambers was also responsible for identifying and developing revenue opportunities and overseeing intellectual property related litigation. Mr. Chambers also drafted and negotiated intellectual property related agreements including technology license agreements, intellectual property transfer agreements, services agreements, development agreements, employee agreements, settlement agreements, and nondisclosure agreements. Managing legal budgets was also a primary task of Mr. Chambers at Trilogy.
At Texas Instruments, Mr. Chambers was an electrical design engineer in the defense systems electronics group (DSEG) in the Airborne Systems – Electro Optics Division. Mr. Chambers designed and tested various digital, analog, and software systems including microcontroller systems, analog circuit design, software circuit simulation, and software development. The systems were designed for military operating environments.
Mr. Chambers areas of technical proficiency include: Software technology including Java®, JavaScript®, object oriented programming techniques and markup languages; various enterprise software systems; Databases; Internet related technologies including system hardware, protocols, packet technologies, and various ASP architectures; Digital Signal Processing, Speech recognition, Telecommunications; Computer System Architecture; Computer Peripherals; Microprocessor Architectures; Analog Circuits; Memories; Electro-Optics including multispectrum detection and signal processing; Digital Design; Power Systems; Integrated Circuit Layout and Fabrication; VLSI and ULSI Device Structure and Processing; Semiconductor Devices and Manufacturing Processes; Test Systems and Techniques; Electro-Mechanical Control Systems; Field Programmable Logic Devices; and Mechanical Systems including dynamic, thermodynamic, and structural considerations.
Mr. Chambers received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University and his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law. He is a member of the Texas State Bar, a registered patent attorney, a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, Austin Intellectual Property Law Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and Travis County Bar Association.
