  Gary Hamilton Biography









Gary W. Hamilton is a founding partner in Hamilton & Terrile, LLP. Previously, he was a partner in the Austin office of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP where he served as the firmwide practice manager of the intellectual property practice group and a member of Akin Gump's strategic planning and management committees.

Mr. Hamilton practices intellectual property law, including representation before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, technology licensing, counseling, and practice in state and federal courts. Mr. Hamilton's practice focuses on the electrical arts. Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Hamilton received research appointments at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis. Mr. Hamilton's technical experience includes work performed as a satellite engineer at Rockwell International in Richardson, Texas. Mr. Hamilton also worked for Motorola as a telecommunications engineer.

Mr. Hamilton received his B.S. in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University in 1977. He received both his M.P.A. and his J.D. from the University of Texas in 1980 and an M.S. in mineral economics from the Colorado School of Mines in 1984. Mr. Hamilton has served as the State Bar of Texas representative to the U.S./Japanese liaison group that studies and recommends improvements to the Japanese patent system. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
